To use the qwertz documentation system, you
will need, in addition to a Unix machine, the following:
1) LaTeX, TeX and BibTeX (and/or some nroff/troff, tbl, eqn and refer,
such as groff);
2) The epsf (Encapsulated Postscript File) TeX macro, if you want to
be able to include PostScript graphics in your documents. (Another
macro package may be used instead, but you will need to edit the
latex.rep file in the dtd directory. See below.)
3) James Clarks's sgmls and sgmlsasp tools. They are are available
from ftp.ifi.uio.no in the SGML/SGMLS directory.
To install format:
1) If your do not already have sgmls and sgmlasp, you will need to
obtain them from and install them as described there.
2) Edit the format, qtex, extract, qroff, preroff and biblio shell
scripts in the bin directory. You will need to change the path names
of some of the shell variables at the beginning of each script.
3) Make sure the commands are visible in your command PATH, either by
adding this bin directory to your PATH variable, or by copying or
linking these commands to files in some suitable directory, such as
/usr/local/bin. Add the man directory to your MANPATH.
4) The reference manual is in the doc directory. The SGML sources for
the manual are included. It is a "literate program" for the SGML
Document Type Definitions. That is, the DTDs can be extracted, using
the "extract" command, from the manual. A compressed postscript
version of the manual is also included.
5) The translation into LaTeX is controlled by the replacement files
in the rep/qwertz and rep/biblio directories. Feel free to customize
these files, or create your own. Each user can have his or her own
mappings, to layout their documents according to their own
preferences. See the man page for format.
